About Kerala

Keralam/ Kerala situated Southern part of India. It is formed in 1st November 1956, so this day we celebrated as ‘Keralappiravi’. Keralam is known as Keranad because of the many places in Kerala are lots of Coconut Trees. (Meaning of Keranad is “the country of the Coconut Trees”. The formation of Kerala was related to Parasurama- an another avathaar of Lord Vishnu. People believes (In puranam -legend ) that he is threw his axe to Gokarna into the sea at Kanyakumari, the land of Kerala arose from the waters. Another opinion that the kingdom of Chera King’s is called Cheralam and later it becomes Kerlam or The king reformed the places and it becomes Cheralam (Cherntha Alam-reformd land). The Kollam Era (Malayalam Calendar) was established in AD 825. Education in Kerala has been promoted during British rule in India by Catholic and Christian missionaries who were keen on providing education to all sections of society and strengthening of women, without any kind of discrimination. Islamic influence first came to be felt in the early 7th century with the advent of Arab traders. Trade relations between Arabia and the subcontinent are very ancient. Arab traders used to visit the Malabar region, which was a link between them and ports of South East Asia, to trade even before Islam had been established in Arabia. Kerala is one of the top tourist place in the world because of its atmosphere was very calm and cool. So Kerala known as “God’s own Country”. National Geographic's Traveller magazine names Kerala as one of the "ten paradises of the world". Kerala state has the highest literacy rate in India with 99 percent.
